Social Outings /

Some people think that the most important thing for an airsoft group do to is to be effective in an event or game. Eliminating the opposing players, completing an objective or grabbing a flag is the highest goal for them in an event. Other people think that having the most expensive gear or the replicas that perform the best is the primary focus of the group. I think those are good things to enjoy, but my personal opinion is that the most important thing for any group is for the people to be friends and enjoy the company of the people in the group. If you aren't able to see the team in a social setting outside of airsoft, then I can't see the group lasting a long time. When you are also at an event for one or two days, being tired or hungry or cold, being friends with your team will help you go through difficult times with the activity or hobby.

The Goal and Purpose of Ritter Gruppe /

Writing a grand thing like a mission statement or purpose seems like an important thing to do, and it should be one of the first things you do when starting a project, company or endeavor. To tell the truth, it has been something I have meant to write and delayed due to laziness and not being able to say the right things. This is my attempt to make my intentions clear with Ritter Gruppe and serve as an easy reference for people asking about the group. To unite Japanese and American enthusiasts of German displays of survival game gear.  As Ritter Gruppe, we will connect with our friends in the other Kampfverband chapters. Ultimately, we will foster a community of appreciation of camaraderie  while encouraging...

MSW's Culture and Groups

Image
One of the most difficult things to describe with any social group is the shared culture. In survival games, this is the true way a company that produces events differentiates themselves from other companies. In America, event companies hold events at locations that are also used by other companies. Sometimes the two companies will also hold their events just before or after another company's event. You could go to two events at the same location, with similar weather and have very different experiences each time because of the culture and structure of each event. I have been to several different events held by different companies, and the overall feelings of the event and the culture are the reasons I co...

Japanese Playstyle vs. American Playstyle/

From the several times I've gone to regular and private meetings, and the many videos I have seen on Youtube, I can start to give some analysis and insight of the differences of play styles of Japanese and American survival game enthusiasts. This is not a criticism of any style or person, it's just my observation. The American perspective and play style is made from the games that they play. Because infinite respawns are normal for American fields, American enthusiasts are much more willing to use a risky and aggressive approach, since the penalty for being hit is a walk to the starting point which only takes a few minutes. Americans are also more likely to try human wall style offense to achieve the goal of the game, with the thought process that flooding the field with players will allow at least a f...

Private/Theme Events

Something that is popular here in Japan besides regular meetings for survival games are private games. In America, private games are usually reserved for a birthday party, or a corporate outing. Depending on the agreement between the field staff and the private group, they can rent the whole field for one day or multiple days. In some special situations, they can have their private games during a regular meeting, but the staff will start a game with the private group immediately after the public group ends. If the field is large enough, the public and private games could even be started at the same time, but have different boundaries. Also, larger organized events like a military simulation event or an event themed around a holiday, video game, or movie would be considered a private event.

What Makes MSW Unique pt.2 / MSW

Image
There's still a lot I want to cover on how MSW events are different to Japanese survival games, and I can promise at least two more entries after this one. I've talked about the length of the event, the structure, using survival gear, and use of blank firing guns in the previous entry. The last two things I want to discuss in this second part is the medical system and use of night vision. Separate from regular meeting games in both America and Japan, MSW uses an imitation tourniquet for their in game medical system. Instead of raising your hand and calling out that you've been hit, you are expected to fall down and start screaming or yelling in pain. You can't relay information to other people, but you can call for a medic to help you. Any person c...

What Makes MSW Unique / MSW

The Biggest Differences with MSW:     There are many small reasons why MSW is very different than other Milsim events in America. Things like the event staff being current or former military help bring a level of expertise and realism you can't get with other event companies. The ratio of staff to player is also important to help create the experience. In most cases the for every one staff member, they are attached to 40 players. Some players have a higher number of staff next to them if they are helping with the operation of a company (4 platoons of 40 players each). One of the biggest differences that MSW has is the gear you need to participate. The rules MSW publishes has a packing list, w...
