Something that is popular here in Japan besides regular meetings for survival games are private games. In America, private games are usually reserved for a birthday party, or a corporate outing. Depending on the agreement between the field staff and the private group, they can rent the whole field for one day or multiple days. In some special situations, they can have their private games during a regular meeting, but the staff will start a game with the private group immediately after the public group ends. If the field is large enough, the public and private games could even be started at the same time, but have different boundaries. Also, larger organized events like a military simulation event or an event themed around a holiday, video game, or movie would be considered a private event.

In Japan, private meetings have a much broader meaning. Some private events are meetings hosted by survival game personalities, where the appeal is playing games with a popular Youtuber. Others are collaborations with stores and fields. At my home field of HEADS Kawagoe, they regularly have collaboration meetings with K-Hobby, a store that specializes in survival game equipment. I visited the field BLKFOX in Fussa, for a collaboration with BLKFOX and HEXERA, where staff and regular members of both fields played together. Other private meetings can be for enthusiasts of certain styles, weapon replicas, or time periods. I have seen events for people who own HK or Krytac products, Old Western era revolvers and other types of equipment from the middle of the 1800s. Some meetings focus on popular gear manufacturers, like 'Ferro Concepts', 'Crye Precision', 'T-Rex Arms', and 'Haley Strategic'. There are also meetings for fans of modern military units, like the 'US Army Rangers', MARSOC, Russian Federation forces, and the German Bundeswehr. Another type of private meeting could be a class on tactics in survival games.

One particular type of private meeting that is unique to Japan is photoshoots. It's true that Americans take photos before, during and after games for memories or to promote a field or event series, it is less important than the games being played that day. Sometimes people in Japan will hold a private event just for a photoshoot. While this may seem strange for foreigners, doing this allows a photographer to take photos that aren't possible during a regular meeting day. It's also possible to make sure each photo is posed the way the photographer wants, and that the camera equipment is always safe. Another application for this is training for a group or team. While it is rare to hear of specific training meetings for a team, it still occurs and can be an opportunity for a photography session as well. Here are two examples: One is from European special forces enthusiasts at a CQB field in Saitama, and the second one is from my team Kampfverband in America.

Why would someone want to attend a private event? Well, the answer can be specific to each person. If it is a themed private event like a meeting for people that like a particular style or brand, then the appreciation of that style can be a good reason. Or, if the person wants to meet others that also enjoy the same type of style or brands. A larger community for that is hard to find at a regular meeting at a survival game field, so a private meeting for a group of special forces enthusiasts can help people network with other enthusiasts. One thing that makes a private meeting more interesting is the changing of the field rules. When I attended a private game run by Filip Airsoft, we played games with a medic system, which is rare in most regular meeting games. Also with the event, shooting between the cracks of the doors was prohibited, which is normally allowed to do at BLKFOX.

Now that we've discussed what private events are, and why people would attend one, how do you find an event to attend? The answer is dependent on the type of event. In Japan, the most popular social media platform for announcing an event is X. If the private event is being held at a survival game field, they may announce it through their social media. The organizer may sell tickets through a website like Twipla or Peatix, and use that as a more official headcount for the event. Other times the participants will just pay the total event fee with the field staff and the organizer will be paid from the field, instead of getting the whole ticket fee and paying the field for using their space. If you see any photos or videos from a private event, you can always contact the person that posted it and ask for the organizer's contact information or just information on the next or a similar event.
