What Makes MSW Unique / MSW のユニークな点

 The Biggest Differences with MSW:

    There are many small reasons why MSW is very different than other Milsim events in America. Things like the event staff being current or former military help bring a level of expertise and realism you can't get with other event companies. The ratio of staff to player is also important to help create the experience. In most cases the for every one staff member, they are attached to 40 players. Some players have a higher number of staff next to them if they are helping with the operation of a company (4 platoons of 40 players each).

    One of the biggest differences that MSW has is the gear you need to participate. The rules MSW publishes has a packing list, with essential items colored in red, and other items that are good to bring in black. I'll provide the detailed list below, but the main idea is that you need to bring enough food and water for the weekend (Water is able to be resupplied from large military style bladders in areas accessible to both factions, and you can fill a canteen or bladder without being attacked if you don't have your gear or replica.) You also gear to sleep in, (sleeping bag, waterproof bivy and sleeping mat are popular choices) clothing that is the same color as your faction for cold and wet weather, and anything else you need to participate for the full event. The events aren't cancelled for bad weather, and once you are in the event, you can't do to your car unless you have specific permission from staff. Some people leave the event early because they did not pack properly, or don't have the mental strength to stay through the night and in bad weather. Depending on how bad the weather or terrain is, up to 50% of a faction has left before the end of the event. If you are new, and you ask friends who have been to MSW how to pack and what to use, you can get a lot of good information.

Here are some photos from my events to help out. At the beginning of the event during registration, a staff member will check all your gear to make sure you have all the right items. If you don't you may need to borrow from someone to travel to a store to buy it. Most events are near a Wal-Mart, which can supply almost everything you need, even if it isn't the best thing.

    The other large difference with MSW is the use of blank firing guns. Most are real guns that are modified to shoot blank bullets like Hollywood movies. If someone wants to use blank guns, they must have a special safety check including bringing new ammunition for inspection, a function and safety check, and being able to understand and recite specific safety rules with blank fire. A question many people ask is "is it a hit if a blank fire shoots at me?" The rule for MSW is that you must react to the sound if it is close. Deciding if it "hit" you is your choice, but diving to the ground, hiding or running are all acceptable actions. If you do decide you are hit from a blank fire, you follow the normal medic rule for MSW. People that use blank fire understand it is not effective, but the sound and flash are big and cool, and helps everyone enjoy the event. Because the sound and flash can be seen and heard farther than a BB can fly, it can be used as a tactic to distract while replicas can move and attack the same targets.

I've used a blank fire gun and it was a lot of fun! When you follow all the safety rules, it makes the event more realistic and you can forget it's a game.
